The Kwara State government has ordered the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School in Adeta, Ilorin, following repeated incidents of student unrest.
According to the state’s Commissioner for Education, Lawal Olohungbebe, the decision was taken to restore order after violent clashes among students disrupted academic activities and led to the destruction of school property.
Speaking on Wednesday, Olohungbebe stated that only students currently writing the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) and their teachers will be allowed on the premises during the examination period.
He emphasized that these students must present valid school identification cards to gain entry.
The commissioner also appealed to parents and guardians to keep their children at home, warning that security personnel would arrest any student found violating the closure order.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing discipline and ensuring the safety of students and staff across all public schools.
