The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather forecast from Sunday to Tuesday, predicting a mix of sunshine, cloudiness, and thunderstorms across the country.
In a statement released Saturday in Abuja, NiMet said Sunday would begin with generally sunny skies, while parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states could experience cloud patches and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
For the North-Central region, sunny conditions are expected throughout the day, with isolated thunderstorms likely in Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi states later in the day.
Southern states including Cross River, Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom may experience morning thunderstorms, with more isolated storms expected in the afternoon.
On Monday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with cloud patches in the northern region, and chances of early morning thunderstorms in Taraba and Adamawa.
Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms may occur in Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa.
The North-Central zone is expected to remain mostly sunny, with possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms in the FCT, Niger, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Plateau.
Morning thunderstorms are expected in the southern states of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by scattered storms later in the day.
By Tuesday, northern states will see mostly sunny skies with a few clouds. Isolated morning thunderstorms are possible in Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa, while afternoon storms may affect Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba.
North-Central states, including the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, and Niger, are likely to experience isolated thunderstorms later in the day, despite otherwise sunny conditions.
Southern regions, particularly Cross River, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, will face thunderstorms in the morning, with continued storm activity expected into the evening.
NiMet urged the public to take precautions as strong winds may accompany the storms.
Residents are advised to secure loose items, avoid driving in heavy rain, disconnect electrical devices, and stay away from tall trees.
Airline operators were also encouraged to consult NiMet for up-to-date weather information to assist with flight planning.
