FCTA to commission multiple projects over 19 days to mark Tinubu’s second anniversary

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to commission several infrastructure projects across Abuja over a 19-day period, beginning June 10, 2025. The commissioning exercise is part of activities lined up to celebrate the second anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

This decision was reached during the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA, which was presided over by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to a statement issued by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, a number of completed projects will be officially commissioned during the period.

Among the projects to be unveiled are the newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre, bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi, as well as the Apo-Wassa road. Others include the N16 Interchange and connecting roads linking Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, and the Inner Northern Expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa Road).

Also slated for commissioning are CN8 from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal, the N20 flyover at Onex on the Kubwa Road, and the Life Junction to Ring Road III. Additional infrastructure includes the Kabusa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti access roads, an access road in Giri District, and a 15-kilometre stretch from the A2 Junction on Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council. Roads in Ushafa, War College, and the Army Checkpoint in Bwari Area Council are also on the list.

In addition to the commissioning plans, the FCT Executive Committee has approved the contract for the upgrade of streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I).

Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Richard Dauda, said the streetlight project was one of seven proposals approved during the meeting. He explained that the current lighting infrastructure, installed between 2005 and 2006 along the 14-kilometre, 10-lane expressway from Maitama to Gudu, has become outdated and inadequate.

“The lights have been in place for nearly 15 years and many sections of the road are now engulfed in darkness at night,” Dauda noted. He said a new hybrid lighting system would be deployed to improve illumination, enhance security, and make nighttime travel safer.
