A 42-year-old truck driver, Jimoh Mohammed, has been arraigned before the Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing electrical materials valued at N18.2 million.

Mohammed is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing before Magistrate Funke Ogun. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, the alleged offence occurred on April 23 in the Abule Osun area of Ojo. Mohammed, who had been contracted to transport two 20-foot containers of electrical goods from Apapa to Ajangbadi, was accused of breaking into the containers and stealing their contents.

The stolen materials reportedly belonged to De-Amalink Trafo Enterprises, represented by one Jeremiah Ezeamaku.

The prosecutor added that the defendant conspired with unidentified accomplices, who are still at large, and was later apprehended by the police.

The charges contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015. Section 287 stipulates a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment for stealing.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in the same amount. The case was adjourned to June 2 for mention.
