The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported a significant victory against Boko Haram terrorists following a series of precision airstrikes in Borno State.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Friday, targeted fleeing insurgents in Bita, a known terrorist enclave in the North-East.
According to a statement by NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the strikes were part of a coordinated mission under Operation Hadin Kai.
The air assault reportedly killed dozens of terrorists and severely disrupted their operations in the area.
“The Nigerian Air Force, through the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, achieved a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency,” the statement read.
“The airstrikes neutralized scores of Boko Haram fighters in one of the most decisive blows dealt to the group in recent times.”
The operation, conducted under the cover of darkness, was aimed at weakening the terrorists’ operational capacity.
Ground troops have since begun clearance operations to secure the area and reinforce the gains from the air campaign.
NAF assured Nigerians of its continued commitment to national security, stating that all necessary measures are in place to ensure terrorist groups find no safe haven anywhere in the country.
