The Bayelsa State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a suspected internet fraudster following the discovery of a young woman’s lifeless body in a hotel in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Saturday and has stirred concern within the local community.
Witnesses reported that the woman had checked into the hotel with a man believed to be an internet fraudster, commonly referred to as a “Yahoo boy.”
Shortly after they checked in, the man reportedly left the premises alone, leaving the woman behind.
Her body was later discovered by the hotel manager, who promptly alerted the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters.
“The lifeless body of a young girl was found in a hotel at Igbogene on Saturday, causing confusion in the area,” a source familiar with the matter said. “She lodged in the hotel with a suspected Yahoo boy, who left shortly afterward.
The hotel manager found the dead body and contacted the police.”
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Musa Muhammad, stated that an investigation is underway.
He noted that although no arrests have been made yet, efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect.
“We received the report yesterday. While no one has been arrested so far, investigations are actively ongoing.
We are working diligently to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” Muhammad said.
He added that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
