The Gaya Emirate Council in Kano State has officially revoked the traditional title of Wazirin Gaya previously held by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) during the administration of ex-Governor Umar Ganduje.
In a letter delivered to the former titleholder, the Council cited “certain unavoidable circumstances” as the reason for the decision, which takes immediate effect.
Announcing the development, the Secretary of the Emirate Council, Alhaji Bello Halilu, expressed appreciation for Alhaji Usman’s past contributions and dedication to the traditional institution.
“The Council remains grateful for his service, support to the Emirate, and efforts in preserving the cultural heritage of Gaya,” Halilu said.
He added that the decision reflects the Emirate’s resolve to uphold the sanctity and integrity of traditional titles in accordance with longstanding customs and values.
The public was also urged to take note of the development.
Alhaji Usman Alhaji’s removal comes days after he publicly criticized the Kano State Government, accusing the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of excessive borrowing and poor performance over the past two years.
He also alleged that the current government had failed to deliver meaningful development and had instead allowed the state to become overrun by thugs and criminals, posing a serious threat to public safety.
