Suspected herdsmen have reportedly launched a deadly attack on Wannune, a community in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State and the hometown of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

As reported by DAILY POST, the attack, which occurred just 48 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the state, is said to have left several people dead and many others injured.

According to reports, the assault sparked panic in the area, with residents fleeing into nearby bushes to escape the violence.

A youth corps member serving in the community described the scene as terrifying, saying, “Everyone is running into the bushes for safety. Please let Nigerians pray for us. The herdsmen are ravaging the environment now.”

The corps member also appealed for immediate intervention from security agencies.

The incident raises fresh concerns about the effectiveness of President Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue, where he met with stakeholders and directed the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff to apprehend those behind the ongoing violence.

His visit came in the wake of a mass killing in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, where over 200 people were reportedly murdered — a tragedy that drew widespread condemnation nationwide.
