A traditional ruler in the Laaagba community of Ondo East Local Government Area, Chief Adeniyi Ifedayo, has been arrested by the Ondo Area Command of the Nigeria Police for allegedly holding a 12-year-old girl in his residence under suspicious circumstances.
Sources within the police command revealed that the community leader reportedly lured the minor to his home, where she was kept for two weeks.
During that period, the girl was not in contact with her family, who later reported her missing.
The girl, now receiving care at a medical facility in Ondo town, said she had been taken to the suspect’s residence by a motorcycle rider and was kept there without proper supervision.
“My parents were searching for me. After two weeks, he took me to Akure and left me there,” she said.
The Area Commander, Mr. T.Y. Pickson, confirmed the arrest and disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further inquiry.
Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, also confirmed the development and assured the public that a full investigation is ongoing.
