A 23-year-old man, identified as ThankGod Elufo, has reportedly died by suicide after stabbing himself in the kitchen of his residence behind Nwodo Estate in the Ajaji (Bonsaac) Layout of Asaba, Delta State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the tragic incident occurred on Sunday night, shortly after his elder brother asked him to get dressed for an outing.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident prompted an emergency call to the local vigilante chairman, Mr. Okolo, who immediately visited the scene.

“The incident took place behind Nwodo Estate in Ajaji Layout. When we arrived with the vigilante chairman, the elder brother explained that he had asked ThankGod to prepare for an outing.

While waiting, he had no idea his younger brother had gone into the kitchen and stabbed himself,” the source said.

Police officers from the ‘B’ Division were alerted and arrived at the scene around 11 p.m. The body was subsequently evacuated and taken to the morgue.

The eyewitness also revealed that the deceased had survived a poisoning incident the previous year and had displayed signs of psychological distress since then.
“He often acted strangely and would sometimes shout that people were trying to kill him, but his brothers couldn’t make sense of his behavior,” the source added.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, it’s confirmed.”
