At least 15 residents of Kwallajiya village, Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State, were killed on Wednesday afternoon in an attack attributed to Lakurawa bandits.
The victims were buried that evening according to Islamic rites.
An anonymous eyewitness told our correspondent that the gunmen stormed the village and opened fire on unsuspecting villagers. “We are deeply concerned by the ongoing violence and the terror inflicted on our communities,” he said. “We believe these attacks are sometimes facilitated by insider information. It is crucial for residents to work closely with security forces.”
Efforts to reach Colonel Ahmed Usman (retd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, and DSP Ahmed Rufai, spokesman for the Sokoto Police Command, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
