Women from the Agan community in Makurdi, Benue State, staged a protest on Friday over worsening insecurity in the area.
The demonstrators, who blocked the federal highway near the Agan toll gate, carried leaves and chanted solidarity songs to express their frustration with the spate of violence in their community.
A resident, identified as Torkwase, confirmed to DAILY POST that the protest was ongoing and remained peaceful.
“The protest is currently happening at Agan Ward, close to the toll gate,” she said during a phone interview. “It’s about the insecurity in the area. We are tired and want the government to take urgent action.”
Security personnel have since arrived at the scene to monitor the situation, which remains calm for now.
The protest follows a series of attacks and persistent violence affecting residents of the community and other parts of the state.
