The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Yahaya Saleh, for attempting to bribe officers with ₦1.5 million in exchange for the unlawful release of a suspected kidnapper currently under investigation.
The arrest was made by the Command’s Scorpion Squad, which is leading an ongoing operation targeting a kidnapping syndicate active within Abuja and surrounding areas.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, Saleh approached investigators and offered the bribe in an effort to derail the investigation and free the suspect.
However, the officers rejected the offer and acted swiftly, arresting Saleh and initiating legal proceedings against him.
“The suspect tried to compromise the integrity of the investigation by offering money to unlawfully secure the release of one of the suspects,” Adeh said. “Our officers maintained professionalism and integrity, immediately taking the necessary steps to arrest him.”
She added that further investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the criminal network.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, praised the officers for their ethical conduct and reaffirmed the command’s strong commitment to justice and zero tolerance for corruption.
