A 27-year-old tricycle rider, Aigboboh Obiho, has been remanded in custody following his arraignment before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over the alleged killing of a 68-year-old pedestrian, Olatunji Ajagunjeun.

Obiho, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge bordering on manslaughter, careless driving, and operating without a valid rider’s permit.

Magistrate L.A. Owolabi declined to take the defendant’s plea, citing a lack of jurisdiction in the matter.

The case has been adjourned until September 4 for legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

According to the prosecutor, Supol Ikhayere, the incident occurred on July 2 at about 7:25 p.m. along Oba Akaran Avenue, Ikeja.

Obiho was alleged to have driven in a careless and inconsiderate manner, resulting in the fatal collision with the elderly pedestrian.

Ikhayere told the court that the offences violated Sections 50, 9A(161), and 52 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

The defendant remains in custody pending further directives from the DPP.
