Dangote distances from truck linked to fatal crash in Enugu

Dangote Industries Limited has denied ownership of a truck involved in a fatal accident in Enugu on Wednesday.

The crash, which occurred around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck loaded with cement and a Toyota Corolla.

The truck bore the inscription of Visco Investment Global Limited but was widely assumed online to belong to Dangote Group because of its branding.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company clarified that the truck was operated by a third party and not part of its fleet.

“We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to find out why the truck was carrying our logo when it is not part of our fleet.

Going forward, we will apply more scrutiny to the unauthorised use of our brand identity,” the statement read.

The company urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims, adding that it was committed to cooperating fully with authorities investigating the crash.

Dangote Group also condemned attempts to exploit tragedies for malicious or financial gain, stressing that it remains committed to safety, integrity, and corporate responsibility.

The denial comes amid growing public criticism over repeated road accidents involving Dangote-branded trucks.

Calls for stricter regulation of heavy-duty vehicles have intensified following the recent death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor.

Ruth died on August 13, days after graduating from Auchi Polytechnic, when a truck linked to the conglomerate crushed her leg near the institution.
