JUST IN: NNPP expels Kano lawmaker over alleged anti-party activities

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled a member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, accusing him of anti-party activities and failure to fulfil financial obligations to the party.

The announcement was made in Kano on Saturday by the party’s state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, who said the lawmaker’s constant criticism of the NNPP and its leadership left no choice but to expel him.

Dungurawa, while addressing journalists, dismissed Jibrin’s political weight, stressing that his electoral victory was only possible through the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won under the APC, but he failed,” Dungurawa said.

The chairman disclosed that a reconciliation committee had been set up after Jibrin’s appearance on Channels Television, but accused him of worsening the situation by declaring loyalty outside the party.

He also alleged that Jibrin defaulted in paying mandatory dues, warning that legal steps would be taken to recover the outstanding funds.

“It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he added.

The expulsion came barely a day after Jibrin hinted at plans to leave the NNPP, noting that he was mature enough to make independent political choices.

On speculation that the lawmaker may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa maintained that such a move would not weaken the NNPP, insisting that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains solidly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
