The Kano State Police Command has confirmed an attack on its Garko Divisional Headquarters by a mob that left three officers injured and several vehicles destroyed.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, said the incident followed the arrest of three suspects in connection with a homicide case. According to him, the suspects were brought to the Garko Division on September 5, when an angry crowd stormed the station, demanding to lynch them.

The mob, armed with sticks and stones, set ablaze a divisional patrol vehicle and damaged three others belonging to the Hisbah Corps and Garko Local Government Council. Windows of the police building were also smashed in the process.

“Three police personnel sustained injuries and were rushed to Wudil Hospital, where they are responding to treatment,” Haruna stated. “Tragically, a burning tyre burst and struck one of the attackers, leading to his death, while three others sustained injuries.”

He disclosed that nine persons had been arrested over the attack, while investigations were ongoing to apprehend others.

Haruna added that normalcy had been restored to the area following swift containment operations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who also held stakeholder engagements to calm tensions.

The command cautioned residents against taking laws into their hands, stressing that mob action undermines public peace and the rule of law.

It urged citizens to seek redress through appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence.
