Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have killed two officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service during an attack in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

The assault, which occurred last Thursday, was confirmed over the weekend due to poor telecommunication services in the area. Monguno, located about 136 kilometres from Maiduguri, lies at the centre of the Northern Borno Senatorial District, a region that has endured repeated insurgent attacks.

Security sources disclosed that troops responded swiftly and repelled the assault, though the number of casualties on the side of the terrorists could not be ascertained.

A military source, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, said the bodies of the slain officers had been recovered and deposited at a hospital morgue. He added that their families had been notified.
