The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Adamawa State has arrested a 28-year-old man accused of defrauding residents of over ₦9 million.
The spokesperson of the command, Nyako Baba, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Yola that the suspect was apprehended on September 2 in Timbokum village, Ganye Local Government Area, following a complaint lodged at the corps’ divisional office in Mubi.
According to the state commandant, Idris Bande, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly duped at least nine people by promising them political appointments, lucrative jobs, and foreign travel opportunities.
Mr. Bande said the suspect refunded ₦1.1 million to some victims during questioning, but records show he had also used the contacts of prominent figures in the state to deceive his targets with fake offers.
The NSCDC boss added that investigations were still ongoing to uncover the scale of the fraud and determine whether the suspect had accomplices.
He assured that the suspect would be prosecuted once investigations were concluded, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
