The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has opened an investigation into the discovery of a lifeless body inside a vehicle at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Police said the body, suspected to be that of a labourer, was found on Sunday morning inside a red Peugeot 406 parked at a construction site within the complex.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, officers from the National Assembly Division responded to a distress call around 9 a.m. and found the corpse in an advanced state of decomposition.
The body was later evacuated to the Asokoro General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed the condition.
Reports suggested that the deceased was a 55-year-old construction worker, identified as Gaddafi Iwar, and that the vehicle had been parked in the same spot for several days before the grim discovery.
Adeh said the Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, had directed a discreet probe to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and to confirm the identity of the deceased.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter and directed that efforts be intensified to establish the identity of the deceased.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Adeh stated.
