The Benue State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered four firearms during a raid in Gboko Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspect, identified as Liambe Orpine, 35, of Anvambe in Buruku LGA, was arrested on Friday by the Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF).

Edet explained that the arrest followed credible intelligence that a gang of armed robbers was hatching plans to carry out attacks in parts of Gboko East. Acting on the tip-off, the JTF stormed the gang’s hideout, where Orpine was apprehended while his accomplices fled.

Recovered items from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, three locally made dane guns, and a jackknife.

The suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts are underway to track down the fleeing gang members.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, commended the JTF operatives for their swift action and reassured residents of the command’s resolve to rid Benue of criminal activities.
