The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 19 suspected vandals during intensified operations across the state.

Commandant Bala Bodinga disclosed this while briefing journalists at the command headquarters on Wednesday.

He said the suspects were apprehended within three days in different locations, including Madobi, Tudunwada, Gwale, Minjibir, and Kumbotso local government areas.

According to Bodinga, the arrests followed intelligence-led patrols and surveillance that targeted individuals tampering with electrical installations, communication cables, drainage slabs, and other public utilities.

Recovered items included rolls of aluminium and armoured cables, transformer components, a motorcycle, rubber solution, digging tools, and other equipment allegedly used in the vandalism.

The commandant stressed that the suspects had been profiled and investigated, adding that they would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent.

“These arrests are a clear warning to all those who sabotage our commonwealth by destroying critical infrastructure,” Bodinga said. “Vandalism not only causes huge economic losses but also endangers lives and hinders development.”

He assured that the NSCDC would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, intensify patrols, and collaborate with sister agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to ensure vandals have no hiding place in Kano.

Bodinga also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to safeguard public assets.
