The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Oyo State chapter, has announced plans to embark on a seven-day warning strike from October 2 if the state government fails to address its demands for improved welfare at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho.
The association’s chairman, Dr. Happy Adedapo, disclosed this in Ibadan, explaining that the planned action is aimed at drawing government’s attention to pressing challenges confronting healthcare workers, including poor welfare, inadequate infrastructure, and rising burnout.
Adedapo said the NMA had on September 18 issued a 15-day ultimatum to the state government to meet its demands, which cover better remuneration, prompt payment of allowances, recruitment of additional medical staff, and infrastructure upgrades at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.
“We have engaged the deputy governor, the deputy speaker, the Commissioner for Health, and members of the state council of elders.
We have also written directly to the governor, but no concrete action has been taken,” he said.
He stressed that the association would not reverse its decision unless government initiates tangible steps to improve members’ welfare, warning that inaction could trigger a total collapse of healthcare services across the state.
Adedapo appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and other stakeholders to urgently intervene to avert a looming health crisis.
