A 72-year-old man and his two children have been arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 28 in Gano, Kano State, for allegedly engaging in the sale of illicit drugs.

The suspects, identified as residents of Unguwar Makera in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, were charged following complaints by members of their community led by the village head of Tamburawar Dan-Tube, Alhaji Auwalu Umar.

According to reports, trouble started after the head of the local vigilante group warned the elderly man to desist from selling hard drugs. The warning allegedly sparked a confrontation involving his children, during which a vigilante member sustained injuries.

Police said the trio were arrested after community reports linked them to drug dealing and were subsequently charged with conspiracy, intimidation, and possession of hard drugs.

During the court session presided over by Magistrate Malika Muhammad, the defendants’ family appealed for an amicable settlement with the complainants.

The court granted the accused persons bail under strict conditions, including a requirement that the 72-year-old must personally appear at every hearing.
