The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zamfara State has arrested 151 motorists for various traffic offences, including overloading and attempted bribery, during a special patrol conducted in September.
The State Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, disclosed this on Wednesday in Gusau, noting that the operation was aimed at curbing common road violations such as overloading, mixed loading, and excessive speeding across the state.
Ma’aji revealed that 75 of the apprehended motorists were caught trying to bribe FRSC personnel, while 76 others were arrested for different traffic infractions.
He said all the offenders would be prosecuted, with plans underway to set up a mobile court to ensure swift trials.
“Zamfara serves as a gateway to Sokoto, Kebbi, and the Republic of Niger, with many transit vehicles passing through the state.
Most of the overloaded vehicles do not originate here, which makes tracking their sources difficult,” the commander explained.
He cautioned motorists against violating traffic laws, warning that the Corps would not hesitate to enforce penalties against defaulters.
Ma’aji also called on road users and transport stakeholders to support the FRSC in promoting safer highways and reducing road crashes across the state.
