Body of young girl found near Otukpo rice mill sparks fear, outrage
Residents of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State have been thrown into panic following the discovery of the decomposing body of a young girl near the Otukpo Rice Mill.
The disturbing discovery, made inside a culvert close to the mill, has raised suspicions of ritual activity, as some organs were reportedly missing from the corpse believed to have been dumped several days earlier.
A resident and citizen journalist identified as Ebony Naija, who visited the scene, described the sight as “horrific and unhealthy,” noting that the body had been at the location for days without removal despite reports to authorities.
He said, “This particular corpse has been lying here for some time, maybe about five days.
I spoke with the DPO, and they have sent an officer. I also called the local government chairman, who dispatched the supervisory council on health to the scene.
But the corpse is still here, and the smell is terrible. It’s not healthy at all.”
He added that the body was discovered in front of the rice mill and that residents now live in fear, as the identity of the victim remains unknown.
As of press time, no arrests had been made, and the police were yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
