A late-night fire has razed a residential building in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, destroying property worth millions of naira.

The incident occurred on Friday at Hazmat Street, Kuola, off Akala Expressway.

According to reports, the upper floor of a duplex and an adjoining two-bedroom flat were engulfed by the fire, which caused extensive damage to household items.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.

He said firefighters from the state service, in collaboration with personnel from the Federal Fire Service and Sweetco Fire Service, successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to the ground floor and neighbouring buildings.

Akinwande commended officers from the Kuola Police Division for providing security during the operation, noting that no casualties were recorded.

“The fire was traced to lighted mosquito coils that were left unattended to, which later ignited nearby combustible materials and set the building ablaze,” the statement added.
