Bandits have again struck in Katsina State, killing two elderly community leaders and abducting several residents in Doguwar Sorawa, a village near Guga in Bakori Local Government Area.

The attackers, said to have arrived around 10pm on Tuesday, operated for over an hour without resistance, leaving the community in grief.

A resident of Guga, Mahadi Guga, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said the bandits slaughtered two prominent elders, Alhaji Bishir and his brother, Alhaji Surajo.

“I’m on my way there now for their burial and to see the extent of the destruction. Many people were abducted during the attack,” he said.

Guga lamented that such attacks had become routine in the area despite the state government’s much-publicised peace accord with the marauders.

“It’s now normal here. Hardly a day passes without an attack,” he said, describing the situation as heartbreaking.

Residents suspect that the assailants were members of gangs loyal to notorious bandit leaders, Idi Abasu Aiki and Kwashen Garuwa, who have terrorised Bakori and neighbouring communities for years.

“They parked their motorcycles in the bush and trekked into the village to unleash terror on innocent people,” another resident said.

In a related development, bandits the same night attacked Layin ‘Yannehu community, rustling a large number of livestock.

The latest incidents came barely two weeks after similar raids on Ganjar, Alhazawa and Gidan Nagari communities, where 43 persons were abducted, forcing several families to flee their homes.

As of press time, both government and security agencies had yet to comment on the renewed attacks.
