A Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officer has been killed following an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a Customs checkpoint in Maje, Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack, which occurred late Saturday, was carried out by gunmen who stormed the checkpoint on motorcycles and opened fire on the officers before escaping into the border forests.

A conflict journalist known as Bakatsine, who reports extensively on insecurity in the Northwest, confirmed the incident in a post on X on Sunday.

He said the latest assault came barely days after another major security incident in the same local government area.

On October 31, Lakurawa gunmen abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly during a night raid in Bagudo town.

The lawmaker was rescued on Saturday evening through a coordinated security operation, although details of the rescue were not made public.

Residents of the affected communities have reportedly been living in fear as the terrorist group continues to operate across rural areas of Bagudo LGA, exploiting the vast and remote terrain along the Nigeria–Benin and Nigeria–Niger border corridors.
