The Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Andrew Ogunsakin, has condemned the alleged mistreatment of Fuji musician, Abbas Akande Obesere, and members of his entourage at the Government Field, Okitipupa, describing the incident as “unacceptable and deeply disappointing.”

Obesere and his team were reportedly harassed during an event held at the venue on Wednesday, a development that has generated reactions from residents and fans of the popular musician.

In a statement on Thursday, Ogunsakin said the conduct of those involved did not reflect the values of the people of Okitipupa or Ikale land, stressing that the local government remained a peaceful and welcoming environment.

“I received the news of the unfortunate mistreatment meted out to Abbas Akande Obesere and his team with deep disappointment and utmost distaste. This incident is unacceptable and does not reflect the values we uphold as a people,” he said.

The council chairman assured the public that steps were being taken to address the matter and prevent similar incidents in the future, whether involving artists, entertainers, celebrities or other visitors.

He added that he would personally reach out to Obesere and his team to clarify issues and convey the council’s regret over the incident, noting that a full inquiry was already underway.

“Ikale land and Okitipupa Local Government remain peaceful, hospitable and welcoming communities.

This administration strongly condemns any form of hooliganism and will not tolerate actions that undermine our collective harmony and reputation,” Ogunsakin stated.

The chairman said the findings of the ongoing investigation would guide further actions aimed at safeguarding the image of the council and ensuring public confidence in security at local events.
