Former Abia State Governor and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply troubled by the country’s worsening security and economic situation, adding that the President has “kept sleep aside” in his efforts to restore stability.

Kalu, who spoke during a Channels Television interview, lamented the shortage of manpower in the nation’s security architecture, especially the police.

He said the challenge persists not because government is unwilling to recruit, but because many Nigerians are reluctant to enlist despite ongoing advertisements.

He explained that while the nation remains grossly under-policed, public skepticism toward joining the force has made recruitment difficult.

Reassuring citizens, Kalu said President Tinubu has intensified efforts to address the national challenges and expressed confidence that the country will soon experience positive change.

The Abia North Senator said, “It’s a problem of manpower. This is a population of almost 300 million people. We are not 250 million.”

Responding to concerns about the pace of the APC-led government in fulfilling its promises, he stated:

“No, let me tell you, we cannot force anybody to join the Nigeria Police Force.
“We have advertised. Did you apply? So we are doing everything possible.”

He added that “President Tinubu is having sleepless nights every day about Nigeria, and I can assure you that things will get better.”

Kalu insisted that the administration remains committed to tackling insecurity and implementing reforms that will strengthen national security operations.
