The Ondo State Government says that it’s ready to ban road trading in easing traffic congestion especially in the state capital, Akure.

The Special Adviser on Transport to Gov Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Mr Gbenga Omole, revealed this on Thursday after the 2026 budget defence of the office.

“The vision of this government is to make Akure a smart city and I can assure you in the next two weeks you will see our activities.

“We are going to take away all the traders on the road because the volume of travellers, commuters coming to the state will increase in the next few weeks.

“People will come home and we don’t want them to be on the gridlock .So we are going to clear that place and make traffic more easy,” he said .

According to him, the government is collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Corps and police to make transportation an ease before, during and after yuletide season.

The special adviser said that the government had mapped out plans to build ultramodern motor parks in the three central districts of the state.

He explained that the park would have many facilities in tandem with 21 century standard, stating that the parks when completed would increase the internally generated revenue of the state.

Omole stated that his office was also partnering with stakeholders, organising orientations to discourage commercial drivers in taking alcohol while driving.

Also speaking to newsmen, the state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Sunday Olajide, said the 2026 budget when passed would improved urbanization of major cities in the state.

“You should be expecting so much from us in 2026 because the starting point is to have a master plan for Akure.

“Currently , we are trying to have to accommodate some level of urbanization, urban renewal, and that has already started.

“You could see most of the activities going on in the state capital. So, it’s not just going to end in Akure. We are going to have similar, you know, facelift in our cities,” he said.
