Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed Mohammed Badaru Abubakar to step aside as Minister of Defence.

Badaru had on Monday tendered his resignation, which was officially linked to health concerns.

But Sowore, in a Facebook post, alleged that the explanation offered publicly does not reflect the true circumstances, insisting the exit was orchestrated to clear the path for a new appointment.

He said, Abubakar “was asked by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step aside to make room for former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa to be appointed Defence Minister”.

Sowore also alleged that pressure is mounting on the Federal Government to remove the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, over rising security worries.

“There are also strong indications that US President Donald Trump’s United States military is pressing for the removal of the equally ineffective and utterly useless Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, citing serious concerns over intelligence sharing and collaboration”, Sowore added.
