A late-afternoon fire on Thursday wreaked havoc at a residential building in the Adepoju area of Ibadan, leaving property valued in millions of naira in ruins.

The incident occurred at No. 1, Road 10, where one of the flats in the building was severely affected before emergency responders arrived.

Sources told The Nation that the blaze spread rapidly, overwhelming occupants and neighbours who initially attempted to contain it.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident, noting that the swift intervention of firefighters helped prevent further destruction.

He said officers of the state fire service received reinforcement from the Federal Fire Service.

Akinwande, in a statement issued Thursday evening and made available to DAILY POST, said:

“Upon arrival, our officers quickly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to the second flat.

“The Federal Fire Service Ibadan Command later joined the Oyo State Fire Services and the fire was collectively extinguished”.
