A man identified as Sani Umar has been arrested by the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos, for allegedly vandalising and stealing 15 bundles of electric cables from the hospital’s Children’s Ward.
Umar, said to be a resident of the Gangare area of Jos, was caught by the hospital’s internal security personnel after he reportedly wrapped the stolen cables in ward curtains to disguise them as clothing in an effort to smuggle them out of the premises.
Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the hospital’s spokesperson, Mrs. Talatu Achan Angi, said the suspect was intercepted while attempting to escape and handed over to the ‘A’ Division Police Station for further investigation.
According to the statement, the arrest represents “another major breakthrough” in the hospital’s renewed security efforts aimed at protecting vital government assets.
“On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, an individual identified as Sani Umar was caught with 15 bundles of assorted electric cables vandalised from the Children’s Ward,” the statement read.
“The prompt intervention of the security officer on duty led to his immediate arrest.
His action is an act of sabotage that undermines government investments in improving the hospital’s infrastructure.”
The hospital management condemned the act, warning that such behaviour jeopardises service delivery and urging staff and visitors to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movement.
It added that the hospital remains committed to keeping its environment secure for patients and health workers.
Our correspondent recalls that the same facility, in November 2025, apprehended a suspected car thief who attempted to steal a patient’s Toyota Camry using a master key.
