Suspected gunmen on Sunday stormed Tudun Wada community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State and killed the village head, security sources said.

The attack, which locals said occurred in broad daylight, was disclosed in a post on X on Monday by security analyst Bakatsine. Residents reported that the assailants believed to have links to the outlawed gang led by Bello Turji carried out the assault without warning, triggering panic across the community.

“Yesterday afternoon, suspected Bello Turji-linked gunmen attacked Tudun Wada community in Sabon Birni LGA, Sokoto State, beheading the village head. Residents say the attack occurred in broad daylight, sparking widespread fear,” Bakatsine wrote.

According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen rode into the settlement and launched the attack within minutes, overwhelming local defenders before withdrawing. Neighbours said survivors fled for safety as security operatives were alerted.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from state security agencies were unsuccessful as of the time of filing. Residents have called on authorities to reinforce patrols and apprehend the perpetrators to prevent further bloodshed.
