An 84-year-old man was on Tuesday rescued from a well estimated to be about 140 feet deep in the Aboru area of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred at No. 35A, Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline area of the community and was attended to by operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
The Comptroller-General of the agency, Margaret Adeseye, said the service received a distress call at about 10:09am and immediately mobilised its rescue team to the scene.
According to her, personnel from the Abesan Fire Station were deployed and arrived at the location around 10:20am to carry out the operation.
She explained that preliminary findings suggested the incident might have been deliberate, noting that the well was properly secured and covered, though investigations were still ongoing.
“The victim, an 84-year-old male, was recovered alive by the rescue team and handed over to his family members for necessary attention,” Adeseye said.
She added that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident were yet to be fully determined.
