A 27-year-old woman, Faith Olusesan, has been brutally killed in the Funbi Fagun area of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
It was gathered that Olusesan was attacked at her sister’s residence, owned by a serving police officer, Helen Adetowubo (DSP), shortly after returning from the market where she had gone to purchase food items for the household.
Sources said the assailants, whose number could not be immediately ascertained, allegedly gained access to the premises by scaling an unmounted section of the perimeter fence.
The attackers were said to have waited inside the compound before ambushing the victim as she entered through the gate.
A family source disclosed that the woman was attacked with machetes and sustained multiple injuries, which led to her death on the spot.
The source further revealed that about an hour before the incident, a relative of the deceased received a text message from an acquaintance warning that Olusesan’s life was in danger.
On getting to the house, the family reportedly found her lifeless body on the floor.
It was also learnt that the victim had been making preparations to travel out of the country in the coming weeks in search of better opportunities.
Preliminary findings by the Nigeria Police Force, Funbi Fagun Division, indicated that the suspects may have broken into the house through a window leading to the parlour, possibly in search of the victim or valuables.
Confirming the incident, the police said the division was alerted around 2pm and immediately deployed detectives to the scene.
“The scene was visited by detectives, and the lifeless body was evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital, Ondo,” a police source said, adding that investigation had commenced to track down those responsible.
The police also confirmed that the case had been transferred to Akure for further investigation.
It was further learnt that tensions rose in the community after the incident, as relatives and friends of the deceased reportedly set a vehicle ablaze.
A suspect was said to have been rescued from an angry mob by operatives of the Amotekun Corps and handed over to the police.
As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding the attack remained unclear.
