The Senate has constituted a 12-member committee to liaise with the House of Representatives on the proposed amendment to the Electoral Act, following controversies generated by the bill.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced the composition of the panel on Tuesday during an emergency plenary session.

Akpabio said the committee would engage with its counterpart in the House to harmonise positions on the contentious aspects of the amendment and ensure a seamless legislative process.

Among those named to serve on the committee are Senators Orji Uzor Kalu and Tahir Monguno.

Further details of the committee’s mandate and membership are expected to be made public as deliberations commence.
