Operatives of the Goa Police Crime Branch in India have arrested a 42-year-old Nigerian, Omorigo Friday, over alleged possession and trafficking of cocaine valued at 15.89 lakh in the international market.
The suspect was apprehended during a raid carried out in Pilerne area of Northy Goa on Friday.
According to a report by the Press Trust of India, officers intercepted the suspect and recovered 31.794 grammes of a white crystalline substance suspected to be high-grade cocaine.
Authorities estimated the seized drug to have a street value of about 15.89 lakh.
Police sources disclosed that information obtained during interrogation of the Nigerian led to the arrest of his alleged accomplice, Sudhir Paleinkar, 42, a resident of Sangolda in North Goa.
Paleinkar was reportedly taken into custody on Februar8 as part of ongoing investigations into the case.
The two suspects are currently being held by the police as detectives intensify efforts to trace the origin of the consignment and uncover possible links to a broader drug trafficking network.
They are expected to be prosecuted under relevant provisions of India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, which stipulates stiff penalties for drug-related offences.
