Suspected bandits on Tuesday killed two hunters providing security in a community in Kwara South Senatorial District of Kwara State.

The victims were reportedly attacked while escorting a convoy travelling from Oro-Ago to Oke-Oyan in the Ilere axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the assailants also made away with the hunters’ motorcycles after carrying out the attack.

Sources said members of the convoy narrowly escaped harm as other security aides engaged the bandits and repelled the assault.

Residents alleged that the attackers appeared to have prior knowledge of the movements and identities of local vigilantes, hunters and forest guards, raising concerns that the criminals may be targeting them to weaken community defence structures.

The development has heightened tension in the area, with residents calling on the state government to urgently deploy more security personnel to forestall further attacks.

The incident comes barely days after gunmen reportedly invaded an ECWA church in Omugo via Oro-Ago in the same local government area, abducting eight worshippers, including the wife of the presiding pastor.

However, three of the abducted victims were later rescued by a joint team of security operatives.
