Mustapha Kwankwaso, son of the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation from the party.

Mustapha, a former Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, disclosed this in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Monday.

He revealed that he had commenced moves to join the African Democratic Congress, coming shortly after his father’s reported exit from the NNPP ahead of a planned defection to the same party.

The former commissioner, who also serves as secretary of the Kwankwasiyya movement, described his decision as a carefully thought-out step.

He stated, “I wish to inform the general public that I have officially resigned my membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

“This decision was not made in haste, but after thorough reflection and consideration. I am currently taking steps to join the African Democratic Congress and look forward to this new phase of my political career.”

Mustapha noted that his decision was driven by his belief in the ADC’s capacity to drive meaningful change and development in Nigeria, particularly in Kano State.

According to him, the party presents an opportunity to advance ideals of good governance, economic growth and improved welfare for citizens.

He added that the ADC’s vision aligns with his aspirations to contribute to national progress and better living conditions for Nigerians.

His resignation comes amid indications that his father is expected to formally join the ADC on Monday.
