Church Property Dispute: Lagos arraigns man over alleged forceful takeover

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday arraigned one Olusola Shedrach before the State High Court sitting in Ikeja over an alleged violent takeover and destruction of property belonging to Harvesters Church along the Gbagada–Oworonshoki Expressway.

The defendant was docked before Justice Hakeem Oshodi on a three-count charge bordering on forceful entry, malicious damage, and conduct likely to breach public peace.

At the proceedings, the state prosecutor, Olufunmilayo Aluko, told the court the prosecution was prepared for arraignment and urged that the charges be read to enable the defendant to enter his plea.

Upon the court’s approval, the charges were read in open court, after which Shedrach pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant unlawfully took possession of the church property and damaged items within the premises, actions said to be capable of causing a disturbance in the area.

Aluko further stated that the alleged offences contravened provisions of the Lagos State Properties Protection Law, 2016, as well as relevant sections of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Following the defendant’s plea, his counsel, Mr O. Odueso, applied for a short adjournment to enable the defence file and argue a bail application.

The request was not opposed by the prosecution.

In a brief ruling, Justice Oshodi adjourned the case to April 22, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and fixed June 17, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
