Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two suspected cult kingpins and recovered a locally made firearm during a targeted operation against cult-related violence in Ondo Town.
The Command said the arrests were carried out on April 11, 2026, by officers of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS), Akure, following credible intelligence provided by the Ondo End Miscreant Group.
According to the police, the suspects are believed to be members of rival confraternities, the Eiye and Aiye groups, which have been linked to recurring violent clashes in parts of the state.
They were allegedly involved in a cult confrontation that disrupted peace on April 9, 2026, within the premises of Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo Town.
The suspects, identified as Nnamdi Sunday and Adegbuyi Seyi, reportedly led operatives to a suspected Aiye hideout at the Oka Garage area of Ondo Town after their arrest.
A search of the location led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol, which investigators suspect may have been used in criminal activities.
Police authorities said the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue to uncover additional members of the network and recover more weapons allegedly in circulation.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying the fight against cultism and other violent crimes across the state, stressing that perpetrators would be brought to justice.
He also commended the Coordinator of the Ondo End Miscreant Group for providing useful intelligence that aided the operation, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
The Command further expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his support and strategic guidance, noting that his leadership has continued to strengthen operational effectiveness in the state.
Police assured residents of sustained efforts to protect lives and property, urging the public to report suspicious movements through official channels including its hotlines and social media platforms.
