The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned 29 suspects before a Magistrate Court in Sagamu over their alleged involvement in theft and a violent attack on a health centre, following a sweeping security operation that netted over 100 persons.
The suspects were charged on Wednesday as part of the command’s intensified crackdown under “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe,” launched to curb rising criminal activities in the area.
Police authorities disclosed that a total of 146 individuals were initially arrested during coordinated raids, but only 29 were found culpable after a detailed screening process.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that those indicted had been formally charged to court on April 15, 2026.
The defendants are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, malicious damage to public property, unlawful attack and assault, among other offences.
According to the police, the charges stem from their alleged roles in the vandalisation of a health facility and related criminal acts that disrupted public order in the community.
At the hearing, presided over by Magistrate O.M. Somefun, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The court granted each of them bail in the sum of N1m with conditions, but ordered their remand pending the perfection of the bail terms.
The case was subsequently adjourned till May 12, 2026, for further proceedings.
The police said investigations were ongoing, reiterating its commitment to sustaining the operation aimed at restoring safety and deterring criminal elements in Sagamu and its environs.
