Troops operating in Kaduna State have arrested a suspected terrorist amid growing signs of violent rivalry among armed groups terrorising parts of the state.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended on April 16, 2026, at about 6:45 p.m. at a Forward Operating Base in Afaka, located in Igabi Local Government Area.
Intelligence reports indicated that the suspect allegedly fled from a criminal hideout in Sabon Birni following fierce clashes between rival bandit leaders, identified as Dogo Gide and Kabiru.
The confrontation, believed to be ongoing, has reportedly spread across the Kachia–Kagarko–Chikun axis, a corridor long plagued by persistent insecurity.
A security source familiar with the development said the suspect was currently in custody, adding that efforts were underway to verify his claims and extract useful intelligence.
“We are analysing the information provided and working to establish the structure and movements of the groups involved,” the source said.
Another official noted that the infighting among the factions could signal cracks within their ranks.
“The internal clashes suggest weakening coordination among them, which presents an opportunity for security forces to intensify operations and further disrupt their activities,” the source added.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the arrest as investigations continue.
