The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Awomehinde Tope, in connection with a theft case that has taken a disturbing turn following the recovery of suspected human remains and ammunition in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State.
The arrest, carried out on April 11, 2026, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Command through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said the suspect was apprehended following a complaint that he allegedly stole several valuables belonging to his father, Awomehinde Kehinde.
Items reported missing include three Boxer Bajaj motorcycles, nine goats, quantities of palm oil, four Android phones, two gas cylinders, gold ornaments, and rugs.
Police said investigations later revealed that one of the stolen rugs had been sold to a man identified as Olawale Sunday.
Acting on intelligence, operatives reportedly searched the suspect’s residence, where they discovered items described as suspicious and potentially linked to ritual or criminal activities.
Recovered exhibits include a bone suspected to be human remains, which has been forwarded for forensic analysis, two native sponges, fetish objects, black soap, and an expended shell of AK-47 ammunition.
In a further development, two other suspects — John Vincent, 22, and Olakintan Oladele, 29 — were arrested at the residence of Olawale Sunday after they failed to give satisfactory explanations regarding their presence and alleged possession of the items.
The police said all suspects have made statements and remain in custody as investigations continue to determine the origin and purpose of the recovered exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered a full-scale investigation to unravel possible wider criminal involvement linked to the case, including the suspected human remains.
The Command assured residents of Ile-Oluji and the wider state of its commitment to public safety, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The statement also noted that the Commissioner of Police commended the Inspector-General of Police for his support and leadership, saying it has strengthened operational efficiency within the Command.
Police authorities said the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
