The Nigerian military on Friday inaugurated a General Court-Martial to try 36 personnel accused of involvement in an alleged plot to overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The panel was constituted at the Defence Headquarters and inaugurated at the Scorpion Mess, Asokoro, Abuja, under tight security.
Proceedings were held behind closed doors, with authorities citing the sensitive nature of the case.
Journalists, including accredited defence correspondents who had earlier been invited, were denied access to the venue.
Security operatives also prohibited the use of mobile phones, preventing documentation of the arrival of the defendants.
The 36 accused personnel were conveyed to the venue in a bus belonging to the Army Headquarters Garrison at about 8:53am.
The court-martial is running concurrently with separate criminal proceedings instituted by the Federal Government against some civilians linked to the alleged coup plot at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
