- A 60-year-old building materials trader has been abducted by suspected gunmen in the Monatan area of Ibadan, Oyo State, sparking a manhunt by security operatives.
The incident was said to have occurred on Saturday at about 8:47 p.m. along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road, where the victim was reportedly attacked while returning home.
Sources disclosed that four masked assailants intercepted the trader and forcefully bundled him into an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla without registration number before speeding off.
Confirming the development on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, said officers swiftly mobilised to the scene upon receiving a distress call.
He stated that necessary operational measures had been activated to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and the arrest of those behind the crime.
“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene and launched coordinated efforts aimed at rescuing the victim and apprehending the suspects,” Ayanlade said.
The police spokesman added that efforts were ongoing, with security personnel deploying available resources to secure the victim’s release and restore calm in the area.
He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities and maintaining law and order across the state.
