Tension gripped parts of Kano on Tuesday after a young man, identified as Nura Ribadu, was reportedly killed by suspected political thugs shortly after the inauguration of the state’s new deputy governor.
The incident occurred within the premises of Kano Medical Centre along Race Course Road, sparking panic among residents and passersby in the area.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the victim, said to be from Dandago Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area, succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack, which reportedly took place inside the hospital facility.
Details surrounding the circumstances of the killing remain unclear, as conflicting narratives have emerged.
While some sources alleged that the deceased was affiliated with political supporters of the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, others claimed the attackers were linked to loyalists of the newly sworn-in Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo.
Unverified video clips circulating online showed a group of armed men wielding sticks and machetes assaulting the victim within the hospital premises, further heightening public concern.
However, authorities have yet to confirm the authenticity of the footage or establish any political connection to the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not released an official statement, but investigations are said to be ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
